In 2013, myself, Scott Blew, and Ivan Cash took part in a 24 hour hackathon put on by our friends at 72 & Sunny for Portfolio Night 11. The goal was to bring together the “modern” creative team (art/copy/code), come up with an idea that highlighted the type of collaboration agencies should be encouraging, and film the whole process. Thus, Coachella— the first ever live online music festival featuring original curated music—was born. No expensive tickets, no sponsors, no pyrotechnics. Just a small, tasty slice of what the internet music scene has to offer, from the humblest of stages: the couch.

Of course, no one really cared about this idea until 2020, when a bunch of people did the same thing, way better, during a much more relevant (pandemic, quarantine, fear of death) time.

Anyway, I’m just exactly as embarrassed watching these behind-the-scenes films as you would be watching videos of yourself coming up with ideas 8 years ago. I’m the one with the terrible bangs. Enjoy!
